Wireless Interlocking System for Tandem Crane Operation

Advanced wireless safety technology for synchronised and fail-safe operation of cranes working in tandem.

SRE's Wireless Interlocking System enables two cranes operating in tandem to communicate continuously and respond intelligently to critical faults, without the need for physical interconnecting cables between the cranes.

If a fault occurs in the hoisting, cross-travel (CT) or long-travel (LT) system of either crane, whether in a contactor, AC drive or associated control circuit, the system automatically stops the corresponding operation of the other crane almost instantaneously. This coordinated response helps prevent uneven load movement, sudden load imbalance and potentially hazardous situations, while ensuring smooth stopping without undesirable jerks.

The system incorporates clear panel-mounted indicators for continuous monitoring of healthy wireless communication between the two cranes, giving operators immediate visibility of system status.

Engineered using highly reliable, long-life German components, the system is designed for dependable operation with virtually no maintenance requirements. The control panels feature IP54 ingress protection and are suitable for demanding industrial environments with ambient temperatures of up to 60°C.

Key Advantages

  • Completely wireless interlocking between two cranes operating in tandem
  • Near real-time coordinated response to critical faults
  • Automatic stopping of the paired crane in the event of a hoist, CT or LT drive-system fault
  • Smooth response designed to minimise jerks and reduce the risk of load instability
  • Continuous indication of healthy communication between cranes
  • Highly reliable, long-life German components
  • Virtually maintenance-free operation
  • IP54-protected panels suitable for ambient temperatures up to 60°C

Tandem Operation at a Glance

Each crane carries a wireless receiver; a shared transmitter keeps the paired cranes in continuous communication so a fault on one instantly stops the corresponding motion on the other.
